Henna (lawsonia inermis) is made from the dried ground leaves of the henna plant. Though the powder is green, it produces a rich brown colour on animal fibres, such as wool or silk, and softer brown shades or pale olive greens on plant fibres such as cotton.
Can be used at 20-40% wof with an alum for a medium depth of shade. Find out how much dye you need for your project, and what wof and mordant mean in our FAQ's, at the very very bottom of this page.
Can also be used as the reducing agent in an indigo vat, using one part indigo, two parts calx and three parts henna (for example 25g indigo, 50g calx, 75g henna)
Works very well on protein fibres such as wool, and has been used for centuries to dye hair, skin and fingernails. Please note that this is pure dried leaf henna powder and does not come with the additives or instructions to make a hair or skin dye
Use with indigo and calx to create a vat and create blue!
