Daydream cosmos seeds - cosmos bipinnatus
A blush pink bloom with a bright pink centre. Cosmos are a favourite plant for tatikizome (direct printing by flower pounding) and the daydream prints with great depth, with light yellow shades becoming soft blue to green at the base of the petals
Great visual impact in the garden, and like other cosmos varieties, they last well in bouquets, and attract bees and butterflies.
Cosmos are not a traditional dye plant, and only have moderate colourfastness, so they are not recommended for an heirloom item such as a quilt, but are a great choice for experimenting with flower pounding.
Begin indoors 4 weeks before last frost, or direct seed after frost danger has passed and soil is warm. Several sewings can give you continuous blooms. Plant in a sunny location. Grows well in regular soil, needs little care. Can grow to up to a metre tall, so place behind shorter plants. Dead head often to make way for new blooms.
