Apricotta cosmos seeds - cosmos bipinnatus
Stunning soft apricot blooms with light rose towards the centre. Cosmos are a favourite plant for tatikizome (direct printing by flower pounding) and the apricotta yields shades of green and blue.
A gorgeous plant in the garden as well, the soft coloured blooms and ferny foliage are dusky and romantic. Cosmos are a cheerful flower that are great for bouquets, and attract bees and butterflies.
Cosmos are not a traditional dye plant, and only have moderate colourfastness, so they are not recommended for an heirloom item such as a quilt, but are a great choice for experimenting with flower pounding.
Begin indoors 4 weeks before last frost, or direct seed after frost danger has passed and soil is warm. Several sewings can give you continuous blooms. Plant in a sunny location.
