New sessions of this class will resume in the Spring, as we hold it outdoors

In the meantime, you can contact us to discuss booking this class for a small group in your own space, or one on one in our indoor space

Backyard dye garden, 174 Victor Ave

In this day long class, students will be introduced to the world of indigo dyeing. Indigo is the world's only natural source of colourfast true blue.  We will begin by learning the history and how to of this magical dye plant, and discuss the different types of indigo vats, and how to choose which one is best for a project.  We will then mix a clay paste, and apply it to our cloth using brushes, stencils and stamps.  All items will be dyed in organic fructose vats which we have created ourselves, and the clay paste will act as a resist, resulting in gorgeous patterns of white and blue.

All materials and supplies will be provided and each student will have the choice of dyeing six fat quarters of cotton fabric or a set of six organic cotton napkins.

No experience necessary

Please note that this class will be held OUTDOORS in the backyard at my home dye studio.  Students will have access to the bathroom and kitchen, but we will be spending the entire class outside, (light) rain or shine.  In the case of heavy rain or extreme weather, the class will be rescheduled.

*Cancellation Policy - class fees are non-refundable.  Cancellations made within 48 hours may be eligible for a credit to be used in our online store or for a future class, pending availability.

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice and no shows will result in the forfeiture of the class fee.

This is the second workshop I have done with Julie Sinden. Both were fantastic. I learned so much and can’t wait to do further workshops. I found Julie incredibly knowledgeable about indigo dyeing. Both workshops were full days of textile fun.
