New sessions of this class will resume in the Spring, as we hold it outdoors
In the meantime, you can contact us to discuss booking this class for a small group in your own space, or one on one in our indoor space
Backyard dye garden, 174 Victor Ave
In this day long class, students will be introduced to the world of natural dyeing. We will begin with mordants, what they are, how to choose which one to use, the difference in mordanting different types of fibres, and how to apply them.
Next we will create extracts from several different dye materials, and discuss how to identify what can be used as a dye, whether it is foraged from nature, from kitchen waste, or purchased, cultivated dyestuff. We will use these extracts to dye our mordanted fibres.
Finally, we will demonstrate how you can shift the colours of your dyed goods, using post mordants and modifiers.
All materials and supplies will be provided and each student will have the choice of dyeing fat quarters of cotton fabric, organic cotton napkins, or tea towels.
No experience necessary
Please note that this class will be held OUTDOORS in the backyard at my home dye studio. Students will have access to the bathroom and kitchen, but we will be spending the entire class outside, (light) rain or shine. In the case of heavy rain or extreme weather, the class will be rescheduled.
