Backyard dye garden, 174 Victor Ave

In this day long class, students will be introduced to the world of indigo dyeing. Indigo is the world's only natural source of colourfast true blue.  We will begin by learning the history and how to of this magical dye plant, and discuss the different types of indigo vats, and how to choose which one is best for a project.  Some basic shibori techniques will be introduced, and we will tie, stitch and bind our items, to create patterns on our cloth.  All items will be dyed in organic fructose vats which we have created ourselves.

All materials and supplies will be provided and each student will have the choice of dyeing six fat quarters of cotton fabric or a set of six organic cotton napkins, or four flour sack tea towels

No experience necessary

Please note that this class will be held OUTDOORS in the backyard at my home dye studio.  Students will have access to the bathroom and kitchen, but we will be spending the entire class outside, (light) rain or shine.  In the case of heavy rain or extreme weather, the class will be rescheduled.

Excellent workshop

This hands-on workshop was an excellent opportunity to understand how indigo behaves as a dye material, learn how to prepare a dye bath and try out various shibori techniques. A wonderful day of work and play.
