About Julie

Julie is an award winning textile artist originally from the quiet shores of Lake Erie, now living and working in Toronto.  A lover of the fibre arts since she was a child, she studied textiles at the Kootenay School of the Arts, a small and eclectic school in the mountains of southeastern British Columbia, where she learned about the wonders of boiled wool from a fellow student.  Aside from hat-making, Julie is passionate about natural dyeing (with plants and bugs and barks and such). She teaches workshops in both natural dyeing and felting.

About The Process

Boiled wool is a process where an item is knit loose and large, then shrunk (felted) to create a new fabric – one that is seamless, durable and super duper warm. More simply put, it’s just like when you accidentally shrink your wool sweater in the washing machine, except that we do it on purpose. All of our products are handmade with care in Toronto by Julie and her fabulous team.
